Psychological Assessments

Get to know the mind you live in, and how to thrive in it.

welcome

Clarity, insight and a plan for what comes next.

Maybe you've spent years wondering why some things feel harder for you than they seem to for everyone else. Maybe you've tried strategies that never quite stuck, or you're watching your child struggle and want to understand why. A psychological assessment gives you more than a label. It gives you a clear, evidence-based picture of how you think, feel and function, and a roadmap for what comes next.

‍

Our assessments are led by a Registered Psychologist using gold-standard, validated tools, for children (ages 12+), teens and adults.

‍

A psychological assessment can help you:

  • Get clear answers to questions you've carried for years.
  • Confirm or rule out a diagnosis using validated, evidence-based measures.
  • Understand your strengths, not just your challenges.
  • Access accommodations at school, work or post-secondary.
  • Open the door to treatment options, including next steps with your physician.
  • Give therapy a precise, informed starting point.

‍

"Understanding how you're wired isn't about a label. It's about finally having the language for your own story."

Why you might be here

When you’re tired of being misunderstood

If you've landed here, you might be feeling...

‍

  • Overwhelmed by tasks others seem to manage with ease
  • Exhausted from masking or "holding it all together"
  • Frustrated that past strategies or therapy haven't stuck
  • Unsure whether what you're experiencing has a name

People often seek an assessment because of:

  • Ongoing trouble with focus, organization or follow-through
  • Emotional highs and lows that feel hard to predict or manage
  • Persistent shifts in mood, anxiety or trauma responses
  • A teen who is struggling at school, at home or with peers
  • A need for formal documentation for school, work or a care plan

How therapy at G&G Helps

Thorough. Collaborative. Grounded in Evidence.

An assessment isn't a single appointment or a quick online quiz. It's a structured, multi-step process designed to give you an answer you can trust, with a psychologist who sees you as a whole person, not a checklist.

‍

1) Clinical interview.
  • We start by understanding your history, your concerns and what you hope to gain from the assessment.

‍

2) Standardized testing.
  • Validated, evidence-based measures selected specifically for your referral question.

‍

3) Collateral information.
  • Where helpful, input from family members, teachers or other professionals to round out the picture.

‍

4) Feedback session & final report.
  • A comprehensive written report summarizing findings, DSM-5-TR diagnoses (if any) and personalized recommendations. Letters of accommodation are available on request.

Know Your Mind. Name Your Needs. Grow With Clarity.

the outcome

Trade self-doubt for self-understanding

After your assessment, you'll have:

  • A comprehensive written report with findings and DSM-5-TR diagnoses, if any
  • Personalized recommendations for treatment and support
  • Letters of accommodation for school or work, available on request
  • A clearer understanding of your strengths and how to work with your brain, not against it

‍

The goal isn't a label. It's understanding yourself, or your teen, well enough to stop guessing and start moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a psychological assessment?

A psychological assessment is a structured evaluation by a Registered Psychologist to understand how you think, feel and function. It combines clinical interviews, standardized testing and, where helpful, input from people who know you well. The result is a clear clinical picture, a diagnosis if one applies, and personalized recommendations for treatment and support.

What ages do you assess?

We provide psychological assessments for teens and adults ages 12 and up. For teen assessments, parents or caregivers are involved throughout the process, and teachers may be invited to share collateral information to give the most complete picture.

What types of psychological assessments do you offer in BC?

Gather & Ground offers ADHD assessments and psychodiagnostic assessments for teens and adults across BC. Psychodiagnostic assessments explore depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma and PTSD, and personality concerns. Each assessment is tailored to your referral question so you receive an accurate, meaningful answer.

Who conducts psychological assessments at Gather & Ground?

All assessments are conducted by Dr. Christine Skwarok, a Registered Psychologist in British Columbia. She uses gold-standard, validated tools to provide a thorough and accurate diagnosis, along with recommendations you can share with your physician, school or workplace.

How much does a psychological or ADHD assessment cost in BC?

At Gather & Ground, ADHD assessments are [2,200]and psychodiagnostic assessments are [2,200]. This includes your clinical interview, standardized testing, scoring, collateral information where needed and a comprehensive written report. A private assessment also means shorter wait times than most public options in BC.

Do I need a doctor's referral for a psychological assessment?

No, you do not need a referral to book a private psychological assessment in BC. You can reach out to us directly. Some extended health plans require a physician's referral for reimbursement, so check with your provider before you begin.

Can I get an adult ADHD assessment in BC?

Yes. Adult ADHD assessments are one of our most requested services. Many adults, especially women, were overlooked in childhood because their symptoms looked different or they learned to mask them. An adult ADHD assessment can bring long-overdue clarity to patterns you've lived with for years.

Will I definitely get a diagnosis?

Not necessarily, and that's okay. The goal of an assessment is an accurate answer, not a predetermined one. If your results don't meet criteria for a diagnosis, you'll still leave with a deeper understanding of what's going on and practical recommendations for support.

What happens after my assessment?

You'll receive a comprehensive report and personalized recommendations you can share with your physician, school or workplace. If therapy is recommended, our ADHD-informed counsellors can support you right here at Gather & Ground, so you don't have to start over with someone new.

How do I book a psychological assessment?

Start by filling out our assessment inquiry form. Our clinic concierge will confirm the right assessment for your needs, answer your questions and walk you through next steps. Assessment spots are limited each month, so we recommend reaching out early.

Are psychological assessments covered by insurance in BC?

Many extended health plans in British Columbia cover services by a Registered Psychologist. Because assessments often exceed a plan's annual maximum, confirm your coverage amount with your provider before booking. We provide detailed receipts to make reimbursement simple.

Can a psychologist prescribe ADHD medication?

No, psychologists in BC do not prescribe medication. Your assessment report provides the diagnosis and recommendations your family doctor or psychiatrist can use to explore medication options with you. Many clients find this speeds up and simplifies the conversation with their physician.

Can an assessment help with accommodations at school or work?

Yes. A psychological assessment report can support requests for high school, post-secondary and workplace accommodations. Letters of accommodation are also available on request to help you access the support you need.
